StrawberrySocial joins technology companies and child protection organisations calling for urgent action on gaps in EU online safety laws

London, 1 April 2026

Social media specialist agency, StrawberrySocial, has joined leading technology companies and child protection organisations in calling for urgent action to strengthen the European Union’s approach to tackling online child sexual abuse.

The joint statement, coordinated by the Internet Watch Foundation, warns that current and proposed legislation leaves critical gaps in the detection and prevention of illegal content online.

As a business working at the front line of social media moderation and community management, StrawberrySocial sees first-hand the scale, complexity and speed at which harmful content can surface and spread across platforms. Effective detection, clear legal frameworks and coordinated action are essential to protecting children and supporting those responsible for keeping online spaces safe.

The statement calls on EU policymakers to implement a durable, long-term legal framework that enables companies to continue to proactively identify and remove child sexual abuse material, while ensuring consistent standards across member states.

This is a critical moment for online safety. Strong, enforceable legislation will play a key role in ensuring that platforms, technology providers and moderation teams can act quickly and effectively to protect vulnerable users.

StrawberrySocial is proud to support this initiative and to stand alongside partners across the sector pushing for practical, effective legislation that reflects how online platforms actually operate today.

Rebecca Fitzgerald, CEO at StrawberrySocial said,

“Keeping children safe online is a responsibility we all share, and it’s vital that legislation keeps pace with how digital platforms actually work. We support a stronger EU framework that helps companies act quickly, close existing gaps, and gives moderation teams the clarity they need to protect vulnerable users every day.”
